Chef Ed Witt moves into 88 Bloomingdale Road
The Upper West Side’s comfort food mini-magnate, Jeremy Wladis, will open 88 Bloomingdale Road with (what else?) eclectic American food and drink in the Aix space with Ed Witt (ex-Varietal and Il Buco) showing off his Technicolor-inked right arm at the stove. Hoped for entry: early August. (In case you weren’t there, Broadway was once Bloomingdale Road). A big chef’s table was wrestled into the kitchen yesterday where the proud conglomerateur hopes to showcase a ten course chef’s choice menu on weekends. Otherwise expect small plates, burgers and entrees mostly under $24 with a few steaks and fish items on the “entrée reserve” list. Wladis drifted into the eats business whimsically when he decoded to open a Big Apple-style slice shop while visiting his mom in North Carolina nine years ago.  “I saw this little gas station and thought it would be a cute spot for pizza by the slice,” he says. Of course he’s not naïve enough to challenge the slice masters in New York.  Here he does friendly affordable comfort food for the neighborhood at Nonna, Fireside and Campo.
